Three pieces of news

I have been selected for EST/Sloan’s 2023 commissions for my play Sameera’s Shadow.

After losing her mother, Egyptian-Muslim scientist Sameera Moussa focuses on a cure for cancer. But her work in nuclear science leads to a breakthrough formula that births the atom bomb. Lauded and courted by America, she must decide between her Atomic Energy for Peace humanitarian efforts and the allure of a life-changing career invitation. A pioneer in her field, she is now completely forgotten.

I have been selected as a finalist for the Blue Ink Award for You, The Fire, and Me about the religious radicalisation of White teens from the West.

I am heading off to Minneapolis as part of my Core Writer Residency with PWC to workshop my play Second Congregational which examines the intersection of Liberalism, Racism, and Religion.

First Down at 59E59, commissioned and produced by Noor Theatre, has officially begun previews and opens on February 24th for a limited run.

NAMT has announced the musicals selected for this year’s festival and it includes Fanny & Stella for which I am the bookwriter with Eamonn O’Dwyer as composer/lyricist.

• Mini-commission for a piece of choose-your-own-adventure flash fiction for Prospect Theatre’s Tree Tales event.

• My short play ‘Unexpected-Beautiful’ was selected and produced as part of SUNY Brockport Department of Theatre and Music Studies’ Festival of Ten.

• The premier of First Down as part of Theatre Row’s Inaugural Kitchen Sink Residency commissioned and produced by Noor Theatre. Delayed to 2022.

• Hindsight’s 2020: A new virtual musical. Presented by Marymount Manhattan College in partnership with Live & In Color.
